Mid Century Reflection

Daydreaming Sanctuaries

One of my favorite things to do is honor my space and create a sanctuary.
From carefully displaying childhood artifacts and ex lover's symbols of once there affection, to trying to represent the many facets of my self and taste seamlessly in my home.
----------------------

I've felt stagnant in my place and longing for a while now. My room on my family's farm was always a nostalgic collage and bohemian dream. Ripped apart Cat Fancy pages to glitter filled ashtrays... I've moved away from that aesthetic trying to find a refined illustration of self in my apartment. Lavender in my windowsills and cross stitched thrifting finds... I still find myself torn - a part of me yearning the liberation I felt when decorating when younger, or for my future self in my forever home.
----------------------
My tastes have always drawn me to bohemian/mid-century/country/folk even Victorian. This radiates from my personal style in to the pieces I've invested in for my home already. Including Victorian style couches, taxidermy, folk art, and mid century cabinets... macrame plant hangers, mason jars full of marbles, and strands of seashells.  I have always loved carnival glass and antique cat figurines carefully displayed.

One of my favorite architectural and interior design schemes is mid century modern. There is something timelessly futuristic about these structures and pieces. From combining natural materials with man made, there is an emphasis on indoor/outdoor living. Clean lines and biomorphic forms make for compelling contrast.

A few statement pieces for any mid-century modern home:

  • Clean lined sofa with button tufting. (Bonus points for bold color)
  • The classic credenza/console/buffet.
  • A cow hide rug.
  • Molded polypropylene chairs with tulip table.
  • A statement lamp with a drum shaped lamp shade. Perhaps with Sputnik pattern? Fuck it, just go for a Sputnik shaped chandelier.
  • Not necessarily a piece, but a great accent is herringbone wood floors.
